This is a topic I love reading about, especially when it comes to different cultures. I’m from the States and traveled a lot when I was younger. Going to elite hotels and restaurants, to small town, mom-n-pop diners has shown me it’s all in How you do it. Etiquette plays such a large part in the customer’s or guests experience. This is wonderful that you are dedicating a site to it :)

I maintain standards where I can – for instance I always wear a jacket, collar and tie for all formal and semi-formal occasions. I verbally criticise those who do not follow my example – for which I receive abuse! I always offer my seat on a bus, tube or train to a lady or someone who appears older than me. I am never refused! I always say “thank-you” to the driver of a bus as I leave it – but I am a lone voice in the wilderness.
